Programme Highlight:
Contract No. YL/2021/04 – Site Formation and Infrastructure Works for Yuen Long South First Phase Development - Contract 2 involves comprehensive site formation and infrastructure works across approximately 3.3 hectares, including land decontamination, construction of new roads (Roads D1, D2, etc.), a slip road at Shap Pat Heung Interchange, and enhancements to existing roads such as Kung Um Road, Kiu Hing Road, and Wong Nai Tun Tsuen Road. The project also includes essential infrastructure works like drainage, sewerage, water supply, landscaping, and electrical and mechanical systems to support regional connectivity and future development in the Northern Metropolis. This work supports Hong Kong's housing goals, enabling the broader Yuen Long South development to deliver approximately 32,900 housing units accommodating 98,700 residents.
The project features Hong Kong's first U-shaped Tunnel Boring Machine for the construction of a 920-meter box culvert. This 9.36m wide and 20.72m high machine constructs box culverts using trenchless methodology, providing significant time savings, enhanced safety, and reduced environmental impact compared to conventional methods.
This technical visit will begin with a brief introduction of the project and follow by site walk to major activities on site.
