International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) is a global event initiated by the Ocean Conservancy in 1986, aiming at engaging citizens to remove trash and debris from beaches and waterways all around the world, identifying the sources of debris, and changing citizens’ behavior towards pollution prevention.
The Green Council (GC) has been the official coordinator of Hong Kong and Macau for the ICC since 2008. During the cleanup activities, data cards shall be completed by volunteers which are subsequently compiled by the GC for analysis . The finals are published and used for educating the public, business, industry and government authorities about the issues of marine debris in Hong Kong. Through education and public awareness campaigns, it is expected to bring long-term solutions and changes in citzens’ behavior in preserving the beauty coasts of Hong Kong.
