Programme Highlight
In June 2021, the Tourism Commission (TC) and the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) proposed to face-lift the Yim Tin Tsai (YTT) Pier with a view to improving the supporting facilities in YTT which is a popular tourism attraction with rich Catholic and Hakka culture as well as ecological resources.
The works commenced in November 2021 and successfully completed in October 2022. The public could enjoy the face-lifted pier during the implementation of Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival in mid-November 2022. The works mainly comprised (1) construction of a new roof cover with glass skylight at pier head and catwalk, (2) installation of featured galvanized mild steel railings and benches and (3) paving of featured tiles on the pier head and catwalk.
The site was located in a remote area. Major face-lifting works were implemented during summer period (a popular tourism season). The project team had to carefully plan and flexibly carry out the works by phases in order to maintain the normal operation of the pier. Moreover, the programme was well organized in a way to minimize the impact caused by the delayed material delivery due to COVID-19.
This site visit will begin with a brief introduction of the face-lifting works during the kaito journey from Sai Kung Public Pier to YTT Pier, followed by visiting the completed works in YTT Pier at around 10:30am. A Q&A session will be hosted by the project team before the return journey to Sai Kung Public Pier (Berth No. 9).
