Technical Seminar:
Construction Digitalisation with Artificial Intelligence – Engineering-Led AI for Design Analysis, Compliance Verification, and Reality-Driven Construction Control
Date/Time: 28 January 2026 (Wednesday), 18:00-20:00
Venue: Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room, 9th Floor, Island Beverley, No 1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay
Organised by:
HKIE Civil Division
As construction projects become increasingly complex, engineers are required to manage large volumes of design data, construction records, and site information throughout the project lifecycle. Traditional manual checking and site inspection methods are often time-consuming, subjective, and difficult to scale, leading to inefficiencies in design verification, compliance control, and construction quality management.
This presentation introduces an engineering-led approach to construction digitalisation using artificial intelligence (AI). It covers the application of AI in analysing and validating BIM data, performing automated design and specification checks, and integrating reality capture technologies to verify construction works against approved engineering models. The presentation will outline a structured digital workflow, including data preparation, AI-assisted analysis, design and compliance verification, site reality comparison, quality control, and continuous monitoring during construction. Real engineering project case studies will be presented to demonstrate how AI can support engineering judgement, improve reliability, and enhance decision-making in construction projects.

Speaker:
Mr. Kevin S.C. WONG is a Chartered Civil Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng, FICE), with over 25 years of project implementation experience in civil engineering and construction projects. He is currently the Director of Civilconnect Limited and the Head of Digital, an HKSTP-incubated start-up company, called ZWING Innovation Ltd., with a professional focus on construction digitalisation, Building Information Modelling (BIM), and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in engineering projects.
He has extensive experience in BIM implementation, digital engineering workflows, and automation for design verification, compliance checking, and construction quality control. He is a Co-opted Member of the ICE Hong Kong Association (HKA) Committee, focusing on construction digitalisation, and the Chairperson of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) Task Force on BIM Training, contributing to the development of industry training frameworks and digital capability advancement. Mr. Wong is actively involved in professional training, technical committees, and industry initiatives, and has delivered numerous technical seminars and courses on BIM, AI-enabled construction digitalisation, and engineering automation for professional engineers and practitioners.
