Programme Highlight

While Aberdeen Country Park is close to Wong Chuk Hang (WCH), there was no direct connection allowing easy access to this scenic recreational outlet.  As one of the quick-win projects under the Invigorating Island South initiative, the Development Bureau collaborates with relevant government departments to develop the Green Link in WCH.  It will connect MTR WCH Station and Aberdeen Country Park through a series of sitting-out areas and pedestrian facilities based on the winning entry of a design competition.  The Civil Engineering and Development Department has taken forward the hiking trail section between Yip Hing Street and Aberdeen Country Park, which is the critical part of the Green Link. The hiking trail is now open to the public.

Construction of the hiking trail commenced in December 2022 and successfully completed in February 2024.  The works mainly comprised:

  • construction of a new staircase connecting Yip Hing Street to the existing maintenance access of the manmade slopes along the street, and the iconic gateway frame signifying the entrance of the hiking trail;
  • Widening of some sections of the existing maintenance access of the manmade slopes along the alignment of the hiking trail;
  • Installation of railings with thematic colour;
  • Construction of staircases between the berms of the existing manmade slopes;
  • Construction of a dirt trail using natural materials at the interface between the existing catchwater and the manmade slopes; and
  • Widening of the catchwater access.
