Engineering in Practice
Date and Time:
Date - 25 June 2022 (Saturday), 09:30am –11:30am
Venue:
Ma Tau Kok Community Liaison Centre, 12, Long Yuet Street, To Kwa Wan
Programme Highlight:
Central Kowloon Route (CKR) is a 4.7km long dual 3-lane trunk road linking the existing Yau Ma Tei Interchange in West Kowloon with the road network of the Kai Tak Development and Kowloon Bay in East Kowloon, forming a trunk route through Central Kowloon. CKR will provide an alternative express route to relieve the traffic congestion on the major east-west corridors. Upon completion of CKR project, the journey time between West Kowloon and Kowloon Bay would take around 5 minutes, representing a reduction of about 25 minutes in comparison to that without CKR.
Central Kowloon Route – Central Tunnel (CKR-CT) (Contract No.: HY/2018/08) is one of the major contracts under CKR project. The works mainly comprise the construction of an approximately 2.8-kilometre dual 3-lane CKR central tunnel; the construction of approximately 41 metres and 33m cut-and-cover tunnels in Yau Ma Tei and Ma Tau Kok respectively. The forecast total of the costs is about HK$6.226 billion.
This technical visit will be jointly held by HKIE Civil Division and The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) Hong Kong Branch, and will begin with a brief introduction of the CKR project at Ma Tau Kok Community Liaison Centre and followed by a site walk to the drill-and-blast tunnels and access shafts at Ma Tau Kok. A Q&A session will be hosted by the project team after the site walk.
