Virtual Site Visit Arrangement
In view of the uncertainties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic in Hong Kong, we had no choice but to postpone a number of site visits that were scheduled earlier in the year. To maintain our continuous quality learning opportunities to our members and our main theme of ‘Nurturing the Young’ while ensuring safety and wellness of all, we would like to launch an innovative initiative “virtual site visit” for the upcoming site visits.
Through video streaming with LIVE commentary, a virtual site visit provides the participants with the ability to view the venue on their computer or mobile device at a safe place. Instead of simply looking at photos, the participants will be given a full walk-through tour. It also allows interactive communication between participants and the site host with a live Q&A session. Your usual support and enrolment are highly encouraged.
Programme Highlight
Central Kowloon Route (CKR) is a 4.7km long dual 3-lane strategic trunk road in Central Kowloon linking the Yau Ma Tei Interchange in West Kowloon with the road network of the Kai Tak Development and Kowloon Bay in East Kowloon. CKR will provide an alternative express route to relieve the traffic congestion along the existing major east-west corridors. Upon completion of the CKR project, the journey time between West Kowloon and Kowloon Bay would take around 5 minutes, representing a reduction of about 25 minutes in comparison to that without CKR.
Central Kowloon Route – Yau Ma Tei West (CKR-YMTW) (Contract No.: HY/2014/20) is one of the eight major contracts under the CKR project. The works mainly comprise the construction of depressed road with a landscaped deck structure at the western tunnel portal and several connection bridges connecting CKR with the existing road network. The contract sum is approximately HK$3.46 billion.
This technical visit will begin with a brief introduction of the project and followed by a virtual tour. The project team will highlight major construction challenges such as the major realignment of Hoi Wang Road, the construction of the depressed road and the diversion of box culverts. In addition, the project team will also share the experience in construction innovations such as deployment of Remote Operated Desilting Robot (RODR) for desilting operations in box culverts and the development of Over-height Vehicle Detection System (OVDS). The technical visit will be concluded by a Q&A session hosted by the project team and the HKIE Civil Division site visit reporters. The presentation, site visit and Q&A session will be conducted on the webinar platform.
