Career Talk at Tsing Yi IVE - How to Be An Engineer

On 23 June 2005, a career talk on how to prepare yourself to be an engineer was held at Tsing Yi IVE with about 100 final year Higher Diploma students studying in Construction and Civil Engineering courses attended. The talk was organised by the AMC and supported by CV Division with representatives Mr Daniel Cheung, Chairman of the AMC, Mr William Chan and Mr Benjamin Y B Lam, Past Chairman of the AMC and Ir Emeric Wan, Event Coordinator of the CV Division to share their experience in the ways to become an engineer in their professional. With a warm welcome from Mr Kenny K K Lo, Acting Head of the Department of Construction of Tsing Yi IVE, we started the talk by Mr Cheung's briefing on the nature of the engineering and how to be an engineer. Then Mr Lam gave a briefing on the work of the HKIE as a learned society, accreditation body and the role of the HKIE in the international platform. Then Ir Wan and Mr Chan shared their experience how to become an engineer in their discipline. At the question and answer session, the students showed great interest in how to become a HKIE member, the salary that they could be expected on completion of their Higher Diploma and the job market in Hong Kong and the PRC. As time was running out, the talk came to an end when Mr Lo presented souvenirs to our members and thanked for our presentation and the talk.
