Programme highlights
Foundations for bridges, electric transmission towers and tall buildings may be subject to large torsional loading from wind effects or ship impacts. This seminar deals with response of pile groups to torsional loading. In the first part of the seminar, three-dimensional finite-difference analyses are conducted to investigate the torsional response of a single bored pile and a large-diameter bored pile group. In the second part of the seminar, the torsional response of 2 x 2 and 3 x 3 pile groups in sand is studied through a series of centrifuge model tests.
