Technical Seminar on " Game Theory and Policy Making in Engineering Management:

Date, time & venue
2007-06-14;;

PPPs have been recognized as an important approach for governments to providing public work and services. There were about 1,120 major PPP projects completed worldwide from 1985 to 2004, amounting to $450 billions or so. Nevertheless, there have also been many serious problems in PPP projects, mainly because of inappropriate administration policies. Therefore, when we, engineers, have chances to participate in management, we should base our decisions on the solid ground of both engineering disciplines and social sciences. In social sciences, game theory by far is one of the most important methodologies ever developed.

In this talk, the speaker will first discuss two game-theory based models and their applications in PPP government policies concerning two important issues: bid compensation and financial renegotiation. The two financial related issues are closely associated with the success of project procurement and contract administration. This seminar will also present the proposed models including generalized theories for contracting and administration policies with fewer restrictions due to the study environment.

Speaker
Dr. Ping S Ho, Associate Professor in Construction Engineering and Management in the Department of Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University.
