Annual Seminar on “Technology Advancement in Water Supply - A Challenge for Engineers”

Date, time & venue
2009-04-28;;

In the history of water supply in Hong Kong, technological solutions emerged when pressing needs were to be met. The construction of the two reservoirs in the sea, namely Plover Cove Reservoir and High Island Reservoir together with the implementation of seawater for flushing were vivid examples of engineers’ ingenuity for meeting water challenges. Notwithstanding these successes, the Water Supplies Department (WSD) has been striving to keep pace with the changing technological world by adopting new technologies in many components of its service so as to achieve its holistic mission of providing a safe and continuous water supply.

Today, the world faces new challenges such as climate change, urbanization and deterioration of fresh water resources in quantity and quality etc. and water resources will become more and more precious. Through revisiting the past achievements and reviewing the current and anticipated future situations, the speaker will share with the audiences his insights on the importance of technology advancement in Hong Kong’s water supply and the challenges for engineers ahead.
