CIVIL ENGINEERING PAPER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2010

 

 

Purpose:

Enhance the exchange of information and ideas among members for the advancement of civil engineering and promote the standing of professional civil engineers in society.

 

 

 

Content:

The paper shall cover planning, study, investigation, design, construction or management aspects of a genuine civil engineering project or innovative and relevant research idea on a civil engineering project in Hong Kong, China or worldwide.

 

 

Awards:

Professional Grade

1st Prize:                                                                                Medallion + HK$20,000

2nd Prize:                                                                               Medallion + HK$12,000

3rd Prize:                                                                                 Medalli





Report

This year, the civil engineering paper of the year award has received fabulous response.

 

We have the honor to have invited heavy weighted leaders in the engineering field to be our judges of the papers. 

 

The first judge is Ir WAI Chi Sing, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works).

 

The second judge is Ir Prof Reuben CHU, the President of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

 

The third judge is Ir Dr Hon Raymond HO Chung Tai, the Legislative Councilor of engineering functional constituency.

 

For the graduate grade, the winner is Mr WEI Ya, he is co-authored with Ms CHEN Suwen and Ir Prof Francis Au Tat Kwong, and the title of their paper is “Failure analysis of four-point-supported glass panels subjected to blast loading”.

 

 

For the professional grade, the second runner up is Ir LEUNG Man Kit, he is co-authored with Ir WONG Chi Tong, Ir YIM Kin Ping and Mr FUNG Sai Cheong, the title of their paper is “Planning, Design and Construction of Foundation in Cavernous Karst Area: Tin Shui Wai Public Library Cum Indoor Recreation Centre”.

 

 

The first runner up of the professional grade is Ir Naeem HUSSAIN, he is co-authored with Ir Matt CARTER, and Mr Steve KITE, the title of their paper is “Stonecutter Bridge – 10 Years in the making”.

 

 

The winner of the professional grade is Mr CHEN Bi Yu, he is co-authored with Ir Prof William H. K. LAM, Mr Agachai SUMALEE, and Ms TAM Mei Lam, the title of their paper is “Reliable Path Searching System: A Case Study in Hong Kong”.
