A wine tasting workshop was held by the Civil Division on 4 November, 2010 from 6:45 p.m. – 10:30p.m at TT Party Party Restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui.  The purpose of the event was to facilitate socialization and communication between the younger members in the industry while at the same time providing them with an opportunity to learn and appreciate the techniques and culture of wine.

Over 80 young engineers and members were in attendance.  The workshop kicked off with an opening speech by Mr. Lee Chi Ming, ICE Association Committee Member, followed by a group game to break the ice between our fellow members.   We were then provided with a basic introduction to wine appreciation.  MUST Wine Cellar provided a fine selection of wines from around the world for us to taste, including a Sauvignon Blanc 2009, Blanc Pescador Muscat 2007, Shiraz 2007, Haut de Lalande Rouge 2007, PAPA Luna 2007 and a sweet dessert wine.  Foods were chosen to compliment the wine ranging from a selection of meats and cheeses to dessert, as we were encouraged to try different foods to bring out particular tastes in the wine.  We participated in lucky draws and a team guessing game where we were required to rely on our sense of smell.  The evening ended with a speech by HKIE Ex-officio Member-AMC Representative, Mr. David Chan.

The event was overall a great success, resulting in an enhanced appreciation for wine culture, keen interaction amongst fellow engineers and adamant enthusiasm from the participants to attend future social events to be organized by the committee.
