Technical seminar on “Shatin to Central Link – Construction Challenge”

Date, time & venue
2012-03-06;6:30pm to 8:00pm;The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Seminar Room Y302

Highlight

The SCL is a strategic railway line traversing several districts in Hong Kong.  The total route length is 17km which comprises two sections namely the 11km Section from Tai Wai to Hung Hom and the 6km Section from Hung Hom to Admiralty.  The railway scheme was gazetted on 26 November 2010 under the Railways Ordinance.

The SCL railway line unavoidably traverses some of the densely developed urban areas in Hong Kong.  To maintain the structural integrity of adjacent buildings and highway structures, in depth study has been carried out and suitable protective works has been incorporated into the design.  The SCL has also had interfaces with some major infrastructure projects including the Kwun Tong Line Extension, Central-Wan Chai Bypass, Wan Chai Development Phase II and the South Island Line (East).  Constructability of this project in an urban area with the nearby operating railway is definitely a challenge.  In addition, due to the current bloom in construction industry, there are quite a few issues to be addressed, including resources, safety and cost fluctuation etc.
