[FULL] Technical Seminar: Hyperbaric Works in TM-CLKL Sub-sea Tunnel Construction

Date, time & venue
2018-03-26;6:30pm to 8:00pm;Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room – 9/F

Programme Highlight

The Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link (TM-CLKL) will provide a direct route between the Northwest New Territories and Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge (HZMB), the Airport and North Lantau.   The TM-CLKL Northern Connection Sub-sea Tunnel is the first vehicular tunnel in Hong Kong to be constructed under the sea using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).   When boring underneath the seabed, the excavation chamber at the front of the TBM is under high pressure (up to a maximum of 6 times of atmospheric pressure). Specially trained workers need to routinely carry out maintenance works in the pressurized excavation chamber for inspecting and replacing worn out cutter discs of the TBM cutterhead.  The speakers will give an overview of the tunnel construction and Hong Kong’s unprecedented application of hyperbaric works in tunnelling including the relevant regulations, hyperbaric modes and the Contractor’s proposal and implementation.
