About the talk

Typhoon Morakot devastated Taiwan in August 2009 causing great loss of life and property. The compassion and power of non-governmental organizations in Taiwan construct a social management system of cooperation between government and private organizations, and the model of cooperation between government and private organizations is admired by professional experts worldwide.
After 4 years and 8 months of reconstruction, the Special Act for Post-Typhoon Morakot Disaster Reconstruction expires on August 29 this year. The speech of Dr. Jenn-Chuan Chern will share the experience and results of the post-disaster reconstruction with “Safety, Respect and Efficiency”, and express the appreciation for the love and donation from Hong Kong and Macau.

Speaker:

Prof Jenn-Chuan Chern is a distinguished scholar and professional civil engineer in Taiwan.  He is currently a distinguished professor with Department of civil engineering of National Taiwan University, the president of Chinese Institute of Engineers.  After the attack of Typhoon Morakot to Taiwan in 2009, Prof Chern was assigned by the Government as CEO to the Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Concil, leading the reconstruction works to those broken communities in the disaster.

Prof Chern is also a Board member and the CEO for Tang Prize Foundation, which is an international award that recognizes the most original and influential researchers or institutes in the areas of Sustainable Development, Biopharmaceuticals Science, Sinology, established Dr Samuel Yin- the Chairman of the Ruentex Group in Taiwan
