Programme Highlights

During the wet seasons of 2010, 2011 and 2013, large-scale debris flows occurred along Provincial Road 303 near the epicentre of Wenchuan earthquake. To inspire the young engineers about the potential hazards of the debris flow as well as the associated mitigation measures, the speaker will introduce the following important issues in this seminar:

  • The processes of the large-scale debris flows triggered by the 13 August 2010, 4 July 2011 and 9 July 2013 storms;
  • Mass transport in these debris flow events and relationships among some repeated debris flows;
  • Numerical simulation of debris flows; and
  • Damage to Provincial Road 303 and engineering mitigation measures.

Speaker
