The C903 South Island Line(East) contract is a critical piece of the MTRC rail puzzle that will connect one of the most densely populated islands in the world, Ap Lei Chau, with Admiralty station. The new rail line will serve several stations along the route and act as a catalyst for redevelopment in Southern District.

The presentation will describe the design of the elevated section of the rail alignment from the Nam Fung Tunnel Portal near the Aberdeen Toll Plaza, to the Lei Tung Portal on Ap Lei Chau and the associated challenges of designing rail viaducts in the urban environment. It will cover a variety of different forms of viaduct including precast segmental construction, insitu construction, precast beams and culminate in the new 230m long parallel crossing of the Aberdeen Channel, which was constructed using the insitu balanced cantilever method.
