Programme Highlight

In Hong Kong, civil engineering projects have a high demand on testing services on construction materials to ensure the quality of the infrastructures. There over 200 HOKLAS accredited organizations for testing construction materials currently in Hong Kong. These organizations provide test services for construction materials, structural diagnosis, environmental and microbiological testing, etc.

The major types of construction materials used in Hong Kong include concrete, repair mortar and grout, asphalt and bitumen, soil and rock, reinforcing steel, mechanical fixings, weld, etc. The capabilities of these materials would need to be tested according to local and international standards by the accredited laboratories in various stages of the projects. Records of tests and analysis in mechanical strength, classification, petrographic, creep and shrinkage, permeability and durability, etc. need to be provided for project reference.

This technical visit at Fugro Technical Services Limited will begin with a brief introduction about the laboratory and follow by laboratory tour of testing equipment.
