Programme Highlight

Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant is a key water supply management initiative under the Total Water Management strategy promulgated by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  The desalination plant will help diversify the water supply resources to better prepare Hong Kong for coping with climate change.

The first stage of Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant will have a water production capacity of 135,000 cubic metres (m3) per day with provision for future expansion to the ultimate capacity up to 270,000 m3 per day, meeting 5% to 10% of the fresh water demand of Hong Kong.  The desalination plant will draw sea water from Joss House Bay, adopt reverse osmosis desalination technology and produce fresh water in compliance with the Hong Kong Drinking Water Standards.  The project also involves construction of an associated trunk feed system for transferring fresh water from the desalination plant to the existing service reservoirs in Tseung Kwan O.  The technical seminar will present uprising challenges and strategic measures; global desalination perspective, the desalination plant project, overview of typical desalination plant design, and progress update on Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant.
